I don´t think there really is a thread dedicated to this, soooo:
Vol. 1 seems to be the most mysterious of all the volumes and there are so many clues and ties that didn´t get picked up.
For the sake of the thread let´s assume that that WASN`T because Nihei had to think of a plot only after vol. 1 and it´s not just random stuff, but that it bears meaning to the rest of the story.
What information does vol. 1 give us then about life, the universe and everything?

I have no idea. I do have another question, though: What's with the weird and the on one of the first pages?
And is that kid a net terminal gene carrier or what?

Yeah, the kid was the Net Terminal genes carrier. But then he was infested and thus Killys journey began anew. What I have always wondered though, was what Killy wanted to do with the Kid. Where did he want to bring him? To the girl with the dog?
And those caterpillar things and the manta ray are prolly just some other life forms that evolved in the city. Maybe on silicon basis too?

Well for that you have to go back to NOiSE and how the protagonist makes a remark of the reach of the Megastructure to the moon at the end. The mid chapters of Biomega get released and there's a giant tower is forming and reaching all the way out of the atmosphere.
That had to confuse a lot of people.

I wouldn't call those armed people jerks. I mean, shit, consider their situation and day-to-day reality. And they threw the bag to stall Killy and get him out of the way. Nothing else to it.

Not by my standards, even if you look so deep into it. They were a-holes pushing their dicks around and they would've probably also try to kill Killy had they felt like it. Whether they were some marauders or members of some insignificant human militia trying to call some shots around, I really don't think they were good guys.

The world of BLAME! is way past beyond being merely unfriendly to human beings. Do you honestly think in such a world, they can afford niceties?
"Good guys" has nothing to do with any of it.

I'm sorry, I had no idea we'd have to go back and forth on this. Maybe I'm just gay for Killy and can't stand such nobodies doing that type of crap to him. I mean he gets hurt much worse and this adds insult to injury!
Still, I always thought those were bad guys. And not just random marauders, they had a reason to be there, they had a reason to keep Killy out of their way, and not just as means for survival. And maybe they did know that the kid was some kinda monster I'll give you at least that, they didn't shoot him just for the evil fuck of it.
If it is marauders, then it's not just those 3. This is the doubt I had and this is what I can make out of it.

I'm inclined to say they knew exactly what they were doing when they wasted (attempted to) the kid. They didn't even miss a beat when the headless body went for a wonder. The girl's reaction to the threat after the antagonism was immediate as well.
They could have just as easily shot Killy as well and removed two potential threats. They probably thought the satchel contained whatever Killy was using for sustainment and they tossed it to deter Killy from ascending.

So, what about the kid then? The way I see it, it just killed them in retaliation. I can perfectly understand that. Plus, it even gave Killy food.
