Even in Blame there were crowded places within the megastructure, like the city where killy meets those workers and the electric fishers habitat.
For gameplay I'd imagine team based quests like defending the toha heavy industries but one on one would also work nicely like the fight before killy finds cibo.

I would love to play a Blame! MMORPG. It'd be really cool with the Blame! graphics of course!

Well, the art style is the best thing about Blame!, for me anyway. If the MMORPG is going to look like Anarchy Online, you might as well not bother. The anime had a somewhat similar style, and it was far closer to the drawings of Nihei than any 3D engine I've ever seen.

As for removing the 'massive' part of MMORPGs, that is possible with current technology. Wrap every player in a bubble so that they inhabit different universes. I suppose it would take a lot of space to store all the world-states for each player, but it's possible.

Another idea would be to place each player in a separate isolated part of the City. The game world would have to be ginormous though. Then if the player succeeds in a quest to contact the Netsphere, he could meet other players (human virtual constructs) there in sleepy-land, and start to connect the isolated parts of the megastructure together. Finding another living human would be a major accomplishment in such a setup. That would be kind of cool.

Does anyone here play Guild Wars? Because it is exactly what they do. Players play in instanced worlds and it's neat, you're all alone in the wild, which gets more dangerous as you advance further in the game. And when you reach outposts and cities, you're back in plain MMORPG with everyone around and you can team u with them. It's more a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game) than a regular MMORPG, it's pure fun and action, no real grinding. The most fun is that you just buy the game and you play free, no monthly fees. Imagine Blame! with the same system (instanced worlds, CORPG, no monthly fee) and with Blame! stories and graphics. I'm in!

That actually makes Guild Wars sound much more interesting than your regular MMORPG. It's a great idea. The wilderness shouldn't be full of hordes of adventurers, mages, etc. If that model already works, then it could certainly be done for Blame.

Yes, there are some small isolated pockets of groups of people in Blame, but those could be the focal points or prizes for quests. Generally the City is almost uninhabited. I think that's part of the charm of Blame.

Maybe the City was started to contain massive overpopulation on Earth, but the rate of City growth soon vastly exceeded the rate of population growth. When the Netsphere cataclysm occured the City became orders of magnitude larger than the population and the problem was exacerbated by the Safeguards slaughtering most living things.

Valve (Half Life 2 makers....) should do Blame or someone shoould make a HL2 Mod Blame-style...That would be awesome. Can you imagine how the graviton gun would be/ It would be sweet! And having to fight the silicon creatures.... wow! If you play as Cibo, you could have all her suit gadgets and even fly!

there actually is a blame hl2 mod in development, but of course you need hl2 to play it and its a deathmatch game. also development is in an pretty early stage.

I don't see much of a future for that mod though, considering it's one guy and admittedly he can't code, and he has only made untextured weapon models. He doesn't even have the concept done.
I'm usually not one to put down others' efforts for mod development, as I was an unrealistic mod maker at one time as well (now I'm an unrealistic amateur game designer, but that's beside the point :P), but seriously, this guy shouldn't have made a webpage for this thing without previously thinking the design through, and recruiting some coders that were equally interested in his concept. If he can't get coders to support him, he should consider learning to code himself; if that's too much work, he should just drop it.
I'll stop ranting now, but it just pains me to see that one of these ubiquitous doomed-from-conception mods is BLAME!-themed.

If you check the HL2 Blame! mod page, it says Discontinued. I think everyone who saw it when it launched (Like me, at the launch of HL2), knew this was coming.

Damn tragedy, really. :(

The Blame fan community is too small to support the kind of team that would be needed to create a top-notch mod. You'd need at least four people working on something like that. One person can't handle it. Maybe in ten years time some Blame fan will be in a position of power to make a real game out of it, or maybe the technology will become simple enough for one person to quickly construct a world, but I wouldn't bet on the latter.

well, if you were to make a stand alone BLAME game, like it was said before, make it like "Shadow of the Colossus".

However, I think Blame would make an interesting MOD for Half Life as well, and if not that, a Ragnarok online-like game.

However, alot of this has already been discussed  sadly, thinking of what genre fits it best does not make a BLAME game.

Not by fans at least.

A year ago, I saw a BLAME mod for HL, but it was only half complete.
